Sorry I won't be able to make the meeting. I gave Neighbor Tom my $20 already and he was going to add $40 to it and take it to Paw. I don't think he has delivered it yet so I am going to try to catch him and add another $20. Still won't be enough to buy a new computer but it may help with the expenses Paw has already had. We need to keep him up and running or a lot of web sites are going to suffer. Can't think of anyone else that is willing, or knows how, to maintain the sites.
I'M STILL THINKIN PAW HAS KEPT UP OUR WEBSITES FOR YEARS & ALL OR MOST OF THE MEMBERS HAVE USED & ENJOYED USING THEM. WE HAVE A BUNCH OF MEMBERS & LET'S JUST BELLY UP & SEND HIM $20 EACH TO PURCHASE A NEW PC. I'M SENDIN ANOTHER $20. ANYONE WANTA MATCH IT OR ANY AMOUNT WOULD HELP. LET'S GET PAW UP & RUNNIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think Paw should give the Geek Squad a thumping. They should have caught that problem before they installed a new hard drive. Having a new mother board installed on an older computer is pretty much throwing good money after bad. The good news is, if the mother board is bad, all the information should still be on his old hard drive and can be retrieved. Damn computers can be fun at times.
Well Folks!, Now for the bad news, I talked to Jerry this morning and after all the time. effort, and money. He got the computer up and running however as soon as he tried to access the web program the computer crashed again, now he is told by the techs that the worm is evidently in the BIOS and that is a motherboard problem so we are back to square one. Does that mean the whole computer is non repairable???
Just a guess on my part Paw but I would think that installing XP back on your machine will probably get rid of the "missing ini file" message. Hope so anyway. Good luck!
HEY DALE, GOT IT TODAY $$$$ THANKS SO MUCH THAT WILL HELP FOR SURE. I'M TAKING OFF WINDOWS 7 THAT SUCKS AND PUTTING BACK ON WINDOWS XP HOME EDITION THAT'S THE BEST. PAW'S JUST JAWIN'
WELL PAW, OUR CHECKS IN THE MAIL & USE IT TOWARD THE NEW PC. I'M STILL THINKIN IF WE ALL CONTRIBUTE AS LITTLE AS $20 EACH, IT COULD TAKE CARE OF THAT PC. I KNOW THAT I COULDN'T & DON'T EVEN WANTA DO ALL YOU DO FOR US KEEPIN THE WEB GOIN. SOME TIMES WE TAKE TO MUCH FOR GRANTED. IT TAKES ALL OF US TO MAKE BTW SUCH A GREAT ORGANIZATION TO BE A PART OF & JUST BECAUSE I DON'T DO ANYTHING DON'T MEAN I DON'T APPRECIATE YOU PAW & ALL THE OTHERS THAT DO SO MUCH. GEE, DID I SAY ALL THAT. THANKS BTW & ALL THAT MAKE IT HAPPEN. ALRIGHT DEN
I also agree with Jim and Dale. Jerry is really supplying us with a big service out of the goodness of his dedication to the chapters and the state. Good job Jerry. I will also match Jim's offer of $20.00. Tom
Right you are Dale. Winter and having the ol bats in hybernation makes the web sites even more valuable for those of us who choose not to hybernate.Knew we could count on you!!!
Fay - You must have missed the announcement. Everyone pretty much decided to use the state forum instead of posting information on 4 different forums. Problem is the forums aren't what takes a lot of maintenance. It is posting pictures, information and events on the individual web sites. We still need that information for the members of the different chapters.
Best Buy has the harddrive that Paw installed for $69.95. It is an 800 gigabyte. For a few dollars more (still less than $100) you can get 1.5 terabytes. That should be enough memory to maintain every web site in the state of Missouri. Not like we are talking a huge amount of money here. I will personally donate $20 toward it. Anyone want to match that??? I can't begin to tell you what a professional webmaster would charge for all the work Paw does on the web sites. We are lucky to have him. I have done a lot of web sites and know how much time is involved in what he does.

This subject was discussed at the last R66T meeting and everyone agrees that the chapters should support the hardware required to maintain the websites. Much like we did for the newsletter, the Chapter (R66T) bought the printer and pays for the toner and materials to publish the newsletter with subscription funds. I think it would be great to do the same for our websites. It was brought up that there is a big variation in the number of members in each chapter and especially in the case of OMT & R66T where a lot of members belong to both chapters. One Idea that was brought up is to have a dinner maybe Thanksgiving or Christmas and everyone donates a few dollars to eat (food also donated like a pot luck) and put that money to the State Fund to earmark for computer maintenance for the websites........ Lets get a discussion going and talk about those kind of ideas.....
Just wanted everyone to know that Paw's computer is down and may be for a while. He crashed one hard drive, had the Geek Squad install another one which they managed to crash as well. He is now trying to figure out how to finance another hard drive. So, all the web sites that he maintains, like this one, will not be updated for a while. Perhaps the chapters shold go together and buy him a new hard drive as he maintains several of the chapter's web sites. Just a thought.
